Today, we'd love to introduce you to Suzanne, from Berkshire in the South of England. Suzanne is happily married with 2 grown up children who also follow a vegan diet, and she is known on Instagram as @menopausal_vegan!
1. When did you start your plant-based journey and why?
I started about 18 months ago and it was primarily for health reasons but also because I was starting to learn about animal cruelty and the affect on the environment of rearing and killing animals for food . Now I know so much more and I would never think about eating meat again. My son went vegan at the same time and my daughter about 6 months later.
2. Is there a certain food you miss and what do you have as a plant-based alternative?
I miss cheese more than I thought I would. I was never a big cheese eater but I hadn’t realised how much I ate it in stuff such as pasta dishes. I make alternatives to cheese sauces with things like blended cashews but its not the same so I’ve tried to make myself like vegan cheese, though I’m still not a great fan- some is better than others. I do like the vegan smoked Applewood and the Buteisland mozzarella though.
3. What’s your go-to easy dinner?
Probably curry as you can make it as fancy , or not as you like, cook it quickly or slowly for a more intense flavour and make it from any vegetables you’ve got in and Chuck in additional ingredients like spinach and chickpeas for added nutrition. My favourite key ingredients in a curry are sweet potato, aubergine, broccoli or cauliflower.
4. Who is your favourite/most inspiring plant-based account to follow?
Oh that’s difficult- there are so many. Some I love for the recipes like @Sibels.recipe and @miss_vs_nutburgers and others I follow to simply drool at their delicious looking food like @kristoplants (he does amazing things with burgers.)
5. Where do you see the future of Plant-Based eating?
It’s just going to get bigger and bigger as more people realise that we shouldn’t be killing animals to eat them and forcing them to unnaturally produce eggs and milk. Food retail will continue to increase vegan options as more people go vegan, until it’s like smoking ie. smokers are now in the minority- carnivores will be the ones who require a special menu in the future.

7. Do you have any advice you would like to give to those just starting a plant-based diet?
Keep an open mind and don’t limit yourself to the things you liked before you were vegan- be willing to try as many new things as possible- you will need to eat a very varied diet to ensure you get all your nutrients and keep your diet interesting.
