Emily's Plant Journey



We are back with another plant journey story from Emily, 24 from Bath in the UK! Emily is vegetarian and currently transitioning to a vegan diet.


1. When did you start your plant-based journey and why?

I was raised vegetarian and so was my mother. I have never tried meat in my life and genuinely have no interest or desire to do so. My parents told me from a young age that I was vegetarian for reasons of compassion towards the animals. I never challenged or rebelled against this as it also made sense to me! Since growing up my reasons for being vegetarian have expanded and environmental and health factors are now of equal importance to me. It is just so clear to me on all the levels why a plant based diet is crucial for for protecting the planet and all sentient beings. I am now transitioning from a vegetarian diet to a vegan one.


2. Is there a certain food you miss and what do you have as a plant-based alternative?


I so far have missed cheese. I do sometimes buy vegan cheese but I do find the vegan alternatives to be a bit more expensive. Instead of cheese I sometime use ‘engevita yeast flakes’. (We agree Emily we love these!)


3. What’s your go-to easy dinner?

Probably a spaghetti dish with lots of veggies. It’s not my favourite but it is easy. I’m also getting into Thai green curry.


4. Who is your favourite/most inspiring plant-based account to follow?


I don’t really follow anyone for plant based inspo!


5. Where do you see the future of Plant-Based eating?


Hopefully even more mainstream! It would be great if we could find a way to subtly and easily transition meat eaters to vegetarian or vegan diets. There are so many alternatives now it’s just a case of changing the mindset and it not being a scary thing to do.

7. Do you have any advice you would like to give to those just starting a plant-based diet?


Remind yourself why you’re doing It, and what your motives are. If people truly undertood the horror that takes place within factory farming and the catastrophic impact animal agriculture has on the planet, as well as the negative impacts on our health then it makes it a lot easier to make the transition!
